Education in France.Introduction.
Before telling about the system of education in France, it would be desirable to make an accent on statistical numbers showing brightly the work of educational system in life of French people. We have considered the population of France receiving education. Also we have made a conclusion that about 35% of the population receives education directly in France; about a parity which is only 32% of the young people (age about 25) live directly in the territory of France. And also about 35% of the schoolboys (younger than 20 years old) are trained in public and private schools in France. It is a rather high result. At growth is a prestige of training in other countries. It would be desirable to note also features of the given system describing France. A striking trait of French higher education, compared with other countries, is the small size and multiplicity of establishments, each specialized in a more or less broad spectrum of disciplines. For example, in Paris and suburbs, there are 13 universities, none of which are specialized in one area and a large number of smaller institutions which are very specialized. Another originality of the French higher education system is that a large share of the scientific research is not done by universities, but by research establishments such as CNRS or INSERM. Positive feature of education in France is the low tuition costs. Since the higher education is funded by the state, the fees are very low. Health insurance for students is free (if they get a scholarship) until the age of 25, so only the living costs and books expenses have to be added. The last time the French education system undergoing a reform, the Bologna process, which aims at creating European standards for University studies, most notably a similar time-frame everywhere, with three years devoted to the Bachelor's degree (license in French), two for the Master's, and three for the Doctorate. French universities have also adopted the ECTS credit system (for example a license is worth 180 credits).
